Neil Houser

Dr. Houser is a professor in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum. His teaching and research focus on critical relationships between the arts, ecology, and citizenship education in diverse and democratic societies. He has a background (BA and MA degrees) in the arts and experience in juvenile justice (employed in a large juvenile hall in California prior to becoming a classroom teacher). He continues to seek ways to integrate these experiences with his work in education.

On a personal note, he is married and has two sons, both of whom are currently in college. He enjoys international travel, cultural studies, the study of history (particularly ancient Greece, Medieval and Renaissance Europe, and the US Colonial, Labor, and Civil Rights eras), historical fiction and historical fantasy, numismatics (especially ancient Greek, Medieval, and early US coinage), motorcycle riding, sporting events (I played high school and college football), and working on his acreage east of Norman.
